About Me

Residing in Superior, Colorado, Tim Hays exemplifies motivation, leadership, and patience. Over the last twenty years, he has dedicated himself to nurturing athletes, fostering excellence not just on the basketball court but in life. He is not just a coach; he is a friend, a leader, a mentor – a man who understands that sports are as much about character-building and holistic growth as they are about winning.

His journey in basketball is a testament to patience and perseverance. It began in 2003 when he started as a high school coach in Meridian, Idaho. From there, he tirelessly worked to instill toughness and discipline in his players, leading them to numerous victories. His adaptability and leadership skills took him to various places, including Australia and Colorado, and eventually to Southeastern University in Florida. There, his team achieved an impressive record of 106 straight conference wins and six consecutive conference titles, showcasing his remarkable ability to motivate and build a winning culture.

While coaching professionally in Australia, he was recognized by Basketball Australia as Coach of the Year, solidifying his status as an elite international coach. At the University of Colorado, he continued his winning ways, contributing significantly to a culture of excellence, integrity, and diversity, leading the team to their first Sweet 16 in two decades. Moreover, his efforts have helped shape the careers of 52 All-Conference players, with 17 signing professional contracts, a testament to his skill in bringing out the best in his athletes.

The journey hasn't been a solitary one for him. His wife, Crista, a former professional basketball player, has been a pivotal part of this journey, coaching alongside him for five years before pursuing a medical career. They share a love for travel, horses, and the dream of owning a hobby farm. In August of 2023, he demonstrated profound family support by pausing his Division 1 coaching career to care for two terminally ill family members. Their upcoming 22nd wedding anniversary on June 1, 2024, symbolizes their enduring love and resilience through life's challenges.
